But before you can actually go ahead, you need to know the types of home insurance policies that most of the companies and insurance agents offer. Some of the most common home insurance policies are:
Comprehensive
As the name suggests, a comprehensive home insurance policy will provide cover for your home as well as your belongings inside the home. There are different types of risks covered under the comprehensive home insurance policy and those that are not covered can always be purchased through buying an optional coverage policy.
Broad
The broad home insurance policy is quite similar to a comprehensive insurance policy except that it provides coverage on the home while the content of the home are covered only under the perils that are mentioned in the policy. For example: If your broad home insurance policy provides coverage for fire and theft then you will not be able to recover for loss due to damages caused by hurricanes.
Basic Perils
The basic peril home insurance policy will provide you with cover for mentioned perils. For example: If your basic peril home insurance policy covers fire, theft, and burglary then it will provide you cover against damages caused by these three elements.
No Frills
Some of the home insurance companies also provide no frills insurance coverage for those properties or homes that are unable to meet their standards. If there are some physical problems in your home then you will get a basic or no frills insurance coverage. Only if you correct the problems, you will be able to apply for a home insurance policy with better coverage.
The second most important aspect of insurance is the premium. The premium is a decisive factor and if your home is well-maintained with no physical damage or irregularity and updated plumbing and wiring then the risk factor will be low. Low risk factor means lower premiums!
So even before you apply for a home insurance, you need to make sure that your home has proper wiring, galvanized pipes, repaired roof and walls etc. These are some of the important elements that drive the risk factor of any home. If your home is well-maintained then whatever home insurance policy you choose, the premium will definitely be lower.
