There are basically 2 types of life insurance policies: one is the term life insurance and the other is whole life insurance. Whole life insurance is also known as permanent life insurance, and it can be divided into different sub-categories like universal life, traditional whole life, variable universal life and variable life insurance. According to a study, around 6.4 million policies of individual life insurance were bought in 1993 and a majority of them were term life insurance while people bought 7.1 million whole life insurance policies in the same year.
If you are looking around for life insurance policy then you need to know one thing: The first step is getting a life insurance quote. You would probably ask: why require a life insurance quote initially? The reason is that a quote will help you to compare the pricings offered by multiple providers or carriers.

The next question: where will you find a life insurance quote? The internet is the best place and the second best is an agent who is registered with multiple life insurance companies. Let’s go with the internet first. Most of the major life insurance companies are listed online and offer a free life insurance quote on their website. At this point, it doesn’t matter whether you are looking for a term insurance policy or a whole life insurance policy. The important thing is to get life insurance quote for either.
You can fill in the details as required by each of the life insurance carriers and then submit the details for a quote. You can do it for both term insurance and whole life insurance. Once you have the quote, half the work will be done. You can take quotes from multiple websites and carriers and then draw a list of comparison. The benefit of this exercise is that some companies will offer a higher life insurance quote while others will offer a lower life insurance quote for the same requirements. You can then shortlist the companies or carriers on the basis of their life insurance quote and move on to look into the details of term insurance or whole life insurance.
The second option is to approach an agent who is registered with different life insurance companies. The single most important benefit is that you will get some of the most competitive life insurance quotes from the agent and from different companies. The agent is like a one stop shop. Once you have the quote, you can get the necessary details from the agent itself and proceed to purchase your life insurance policy.
