There comes a time in everyone’s life where you will need to visit a dentist. It may be for small dental problems or even for cosmetic dentistry but it will pinch your pocket. The best solution hence is dental insurance. There are different types of dental insurance available and each one provides a specific cover for dentist fee and various dental problems. The benefit of buying dental insurance is that it will bring down your dental expenses.
There are four types of dental plans that you can consider and they are:
Dental Reimbursement Plans
This is not exactly a dental insurance plan but it is an agreement that is reached between you and your employer. The important part is that with the help of this plan you will be able to reimburse all your dental expenses. When you visit a dentist, you pay the fee and then submit the receipt of the expenses with your employer who will then reimburse you. The only clause is that most employers have a specific limit, which can vary from $500 to $1000 a year.
Traditional Dental Insurance
The traditional dental insurance plan is quite similar to some of the health insurance plans. As a part of the plan, you will have to pay a specific amount of money as premium and it can be on a weekly, monthly or annual basis. You can receive benefits up to almost 80% of the dental costs. You can buy this insurance directly from the insurance agent or from your employer.
Dental Discount Plans
These are discounted plans but are not counted as a dental insurance plan. Using this plan, you will be able to get certain amount of discount on specific dental services. Let’s take an example: If you visit a dentist and the fee is $100 then with a dental discount plan, you will get a discount of at least 20%, which means you will save $20.
Voluntary Group Plans
This is a perfect dental insurance plan for the workplace. The voluntary group plan can be set up by the employer for a group of employees. You will be able to get a cheaper rate based on the fact that it has been initiated by your employer. You and your colleagues or the members in the group will have to pay the fees for dental insurance but you will get the group discount.
There are many more dental insurance and non-insurance dental plans available and there are some special plans offered by dental insurance companies. Before buying a dental insurance plan, make sure that you have enough information to help you make an informed choice.
