One of the most persistent risks that you will ever come across is a health risk. Health risks are not necessarily related to diseases; it can also be caused by environmental pollution, fire, storms and other natural or artificial disasters. We are living in a world where health risks have increased over the years. In such a scenario, the best option is to find a good health insurance policy and purchase it.

You may probably ask: is health insurance for me?

Health insurance is not really people specific, it is generic. You never know when you might face a small or grave health problem and the medical examination fee and the cost of medicines can pinch your pocket. This is one of the aspects covered by health insurance. The next question is: how you find an affordable health insurance.

There are several insurance companies who offer some of the best health insurance covers but are they affordable? What is the premium that you will have to pay for purchasing a comprehensive medical insurance policy or for a basic medical insurance policy? These are some of the questions that you will ask yourself while looking out for an affordable medical insurance policy.

The first thing is to understand that there are three types of medical insurance policies and they are:

  • Basic medical insurance: The basic policy will cover costs related to hospitalization and medicines for a specific amount.
  • Major medical insurance: The major medical insurance will provide coverage only after you have reached a deductible, which can be around $5,000 or even more.
  • Comprehensive major medical insurance: The comprehensive cover is a combination of the basic as well as the major medical insurance covers. It will include the cost of hospitalization and doctor’s examination fee.

The affordability of each of these medical insurance plans varies from company to company. Some insurance companies may charge you lesser premium, which will also depend on the amount of deductible paid by you in advance.

One of the facts that many people overlook is that big employers can help you to get affordable medical insurance. If you are working with a big company that has more than 50 or 100 employees then you can derive the benefit of getting an affordable medical insurance and sometimes cheap medical insurance. This is possible because big companies can apply for group medical insurance.

Apart from medical insurance policies, there are different types of discount plans (non-insurance) also available. With the ease of the internet, you can compare the premiums and the benefits offered by different health insurance providers and then make an informed choice.
